There is so much you can do to get yourself, your family and your business
better prepared for an emergency. In our area, a big earthquake is
eventually inevitable. We hold periodic free
workshops which are designed to help you get ready for an earthquake or other
disaster. First you need to know how to survive it and then we'll tell you
what supplies you'll need - food, water, shelter, tools and storage in a safe,
accessible place.
Dave Lewis, retired fire chief with the Oakland Fire Department and emergency
preparedness expert, talks for about 45 minutes and then answers questions.
John Zanzi, chief of the Sebastopol Fire Department, will also talk about CERT -
(Community Emergency Response Team) which educates people about disaster
preparedness for hazards that may impact our area and trains them in basic
disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team
organization, and disaster medical operations.
We give out copies of our Red-Cross endorsed 16-week disaster prep plan and
an excellent booklet put out by the State of California called "Putting Down
Roots in Earthquake Country".
We also serve samples of Mountain House freeze dried food so you can taste how
good emergency food can be.
We would be happy to set up a workshop for groups
interested. Contact Mike Bishop at the store at 823-7688.
